Legends of the Astral System

CHAPTER 1. THE BIRTH OF KROGBERG

The first thing Krog remembered was opening his eyes, his head barely cracking the shell, his body still inside the egg. He could see nothing but he could hear the sounds of muffled roars and blasts coming from a distance. His instincts pushed him to start moving and start digging upwards.

KROG Legends of the Astral System 1

As Krog broke to the surface he was welcomed by a burning wasteland, the planet was in absolute chaos. Raging fires spread across the surface, cutting through them were rivers of flowing Lava. The odor was extremely unpleasant, perhaps it was the planet’s guts that smelled.

Since the moment of birth Krog could feel a sense of self-awareness. Krog was the size of a common house lizard and by all means resembled one in shape and features too. Krog could feel the stickiness of his paws, his sharp eyesight, his acute sense of smell and his heightened hearing abilities.

impact with the moon 2

These were the moments the Dragon hatchlings were most vulnerable, if left alone, most of them died or were killed and eaten by other predatory species so the dragons always used to be there to protect and help their young. Krog and his siblings had no such protection. Krog was born to a burning wasteland. The impact with the moon had left the planet skewed off its axis and destroyed major chunks of the atmosphere. The majority of the matter-based life on MP-Z had disappeared and now, only the Razors remained, as savages. The Razors had no interest in a harmonious structured living. The Razors were an erratic creature with the savageness to match.

Krog was born to a world full of threats, with everyone out to get him. MP-Z had lost most, if not all of its life and so whatever little remained had to fight for survival. All the rules of conduct were off, cannibalism was in. Any and everything that could be killed and eaten was game. Krog had a number of siblings born with him, they all met their demise right in front of him. Some were picked off by creatures much bigger and stronger than them, others drowned in Lava and were eaten up by the planet itself. Krog immediately understood that survival would be a full-time job. Krog knew that he needed to get bigger and he needed to get stronger. In the meanwhile, he needed some place to hide. Somewhere he could be safe and preferably somewhere he could feed.

Krog’s instincts told him that if he were to survive, the first thing he needed to do was get bigger and get stronger. There was nothing small enough for Krog to attack and kill. Krog’s instincts were strong, his nose was leading him somewhere, he felt the urge to follow his nose, leading him straight to the rotting corpse of a Giant Dragon. This was the smell of dinner for young Krog. Krog instinctively climbed inside the dragon’s skull through its ears and started eating.  Krog ate as much as he could for as long as he could. This was his home now. Feasting on the dragon’s brain, safe, protected by a dragon skull. As Krog ate and grew he had started remembering things. He started experiencing flashbacks, almost as if he had had previous lives, but he could sense that it wasn’t him and the memories weren’t his, it was someone else’s memories. Over the coming decades, as Krog remained inside the Dragon’s skull, feeding and figuring out what all the memories meant. The memories that Krog had were coming to him in chronological order and were raw data. It was as if these memories had no emotions attached to them just raw data.

THE ASTRAL SYSTEM – THE BEGINNING

Astral System

The Astral System was a planetary system orbiting the star Astra. Astra was a star five times the size of our sun, much older and brighter than it. Astra had seven planets orbiting it: MP-Z, Prima, Dortha, Decca, Prima-ces, Prima-tres and Phanta. Of the seven orbiting planets four were inhabitable and three were uninhabitable. Within the inhabitable zone lied MP-Z, Prima, Dortha and Decca while Prima-ces, Prima-tres and Phanta were too far away from Astra and remained unable to harbor life. Out of the four planets in the Inhabitable zone MP-Z was in the hot zone and therefore was uninhabitable by any and all standards of Earthly life.

MP-Z

MP Z

MP-Z had originally been called Mother Land and was a paradise for its inhabitants, most notably the Dragons and the Razors, but this was a long time ago. Now, MP-Z was a planet skewed off its axis wandering on a semi-elliptical orbit around Astra. A few million years ago, impact with its own moon had caused it to lose a sizeable chunk of its mass, now floating in space as debris. The guts of the planet were spewing into space as if frozen in time. The impact with the moon had also caused huge punctures in the atmosphere causing the planet to be exposed directly to space at various places. A particularly rugged and unpredictable terrain. The only creatures left is Razors and the other non-intelligent fire-based life forms, they too barely surviving. With its guts exposed to space the planet had went into a kind of self-repair mode, healing its wounds and rebuilding itself. The planet had started pushing Lava and molten Magma to the surface from cracks and fissures in the Crust in an effort to form a Scab over the wounds of the planet and start the healing process. This had left the planet as a burning wasteland terraforming the surface into rivers of flowing Lava and lakes of molten and frozen Magma. To make matters worse the other planets had started using MP-Z as a dumping ground not just for waste but for the criminally insane and other social outcasts. Most of these damned souls would perish immediately on arrival to MP-Z, instantly burning and vaporizing. The unlucky ones that survived the initial arrival by landing somewhere relatively cooler would serve as fodder for the resident savages, being ripped apart and devoured alive by the fire creatures of MP-Z.

THE BEGINNING

Millions of years ago, before the advent of interplanetary travel technologies, All the inhabitants of the Astral system remained on their own planets mostly unaware of the creatures inhabiting their neighboring planets. The Astral System consisted of Seven planets in order of proximity to Astra: MotherLand, Prima, Dortha, Decca, Lenta, Preen and Phanta. Of these seven planets, the latter three existed out of the inhabitable zone and were not fit for life. The first four planets however were teeming with life, much different from life as we know on Earth. Each planet was especially suited for its native species. The Life forms of the Astral system were much different than the life forms we are familiar to.

Motherland was the planet closest to Astra. The surface of Motherland was hotter than the surface of our mercury but it was perfectly suited for its native species. Motherland was home to creatures based on fire and matter-based creatures with advanced fire capabilities. The most notable inhabitants of Motherland were the Razors and the Dragons, the latter naming the planet. The Dragons were matter based creatures with abilities to control and manipulate fire. The Dragons were a highly advance race with high degrees of wisdom and intellect. At this time, the Dragons were the dominant species of Motherland and ruled in a way as to create and bring harmony to all the creatures of Motherland. The Dragons were huge, long, scaly winged creatures. They laid their eggs in Lava. The egg shell was a rock-like material that maintains temperature.

Razor 2

The Razors were fire based demonic entities, highly erratic. These were and extremely unstable, highly unpredictable race. They lived for thousands of years, yet remained at the intellectual capacity of a modern six-year-old human child. Their existence was unstable, as they could only appear in physical form for a few seconds before they needed to vibrate their bodies at an accelerated pace and teleport to a different position. To an observer, a Razor would seem as if disappearing the reappearing a couple of feet away, then disappearing again only to reappear at a different position a few seconds later.

Five million years ago, the Dragons were spread all over Motherland. The Dragons were divided into a number of tribes, each tribe inhabiting its own territory. Though the Dragons were a peaceful race promoting inter-tribal trade and exchange, the tribal system was still proving a detriment to the overall wellbeing of the Dragons as a whole. With the tribes divided and separated by vast distances, a tribe had only itself and the members within to rely on. This had left some smaller tribes vulnerable and vulnerable to attack by Razors and any other predatory species. The tribes thus maintained strong bonds within the members of the tribes ensuring each other’s survival. The Razors, though not deadly would prove to be very harmful in large numbers, injuring and harming the Dragons and all other races of Motherland.

Let’s try to understand Prima better. By all definitions of the word, one could imagine Prima as a Paradise with lush greenery, beautiful meadows and flowing rivers of crystal-clear water. An abundant variety of beautiful and interesting creatures inhabited Prima. The dominant species of Prima called themselves the Primaries. The Primaries considered themselves to be the beginning of creation and the first creatures to be created by the Creator. The Primaries were a very proud and arrogant creatures. The considered themselves to be better and more evolved than all the other life forms inhabiting the Galaxy. The Primaries were a creature based on matter and light so they could exist comfortably in both, the physical domain and the astral plane.

Mudders

Dortha was home to Mudders as the most advanced native species. Mudders could be best understood as a race of highly evolved Apes. They preferred to live simple lives in small farming communities. The Mudders were a peaceful creature, preferring to live in harmony not only with each other but also with other fellow creatures of Dortha in a way to cultivate a peaceful and harmonious environment. The Mudders had turned Dortha into a prosperous, well-integrated society. But it took constant, around the clock work. Dortha was not as harsh and unforgiving a terrain as Motherland but wasn’t Prima either. The Mudders worked exceptionally hard to maintain a supply of subsistence through farming and other agricultural activities.

Decca wasn’t home to any sufficiently advanced species but it was teeming with life. No other planet in the Astral system boasted such an abundance of life both in variety and in numbers. Decca had a wide variety of landscapes. From space Decca resembled Saturn or Jupiter but a closer look would reveal that it might have been more like Earth. All of Decca’s water was underground, therefore all the native species had some way of digging and extracting the water from under the surface, at least enough to ensure survival……………
