CHAPTER 2. QUEEN HERCULA

The Dragons had an extremely intricate societal structure which they needed in order to protect their dominance and keep ruling Motherland. Political system of the Dragons somewhat resembled the modern Monarchal system among humans.

Queen Hercula was born the most beautiful princess to the most powerful Alpha Dragon Motherland had ever known. The Dragon race was reaching its prime and was more powerful than it had ever been before. The Dragon society was advancing at an incredible pace and conquering every zone of Motherland. The Alpha Dragon King Lanber was an ambitious King. He wanted to extend his dominion to the ends of Motherland and be the most powerful King in history. King Lanber thus assembled his armies and started his campaign of conquering the far reaches of the Planet. The King took down and absorbed any and all tribes that stood in his way, further growing his empire and increasing his might.

King Lanber had grown powerful and dominant over Motherland and banished the Razors from the population centers of the Dragons. The Razors had thus been cast to the shadows, constantly on the run, constantly hiding.

Among the Dragons, the hierarchy wasn’t based upon gender, rather it was based upon power and abilities. During his time, King Lanber was among the few elite Dragons who had mastered the ability to manipulate and control fire, thereby becoming fire breathers. Not all Dragons could naturally breath fire. It was a very rigorous process, whereby a growing dragon would, during its metamorphosis stage, would cocoon itself deep inside the Magma filed mantle of the planet. This process would take more than 100 years. At least 90% of the young dragons that attempted this metamorphosis process would die during the cocoon phase due to immense heat, as even a small puncture in the cocoon lining would slowing burn the Dragon alive. This kind of death would be the worst, the dragons would be in a deep slumber in a temperature-controlled cocoon, the heat pouring in from a small crack or puncture would at first be too little to notice, but over a period of time it would slowly start burning the dragons’ body from that one spot. By the time the Dragon would realize, it would already be too late, a major part of its body burnt from the inside. This would leave the dragon in immense pain waiting for the magma to reach its vital organs and end the suffering.  If the cocoon remained strong enough and puncture free, there was always the risk of the turbulent magma simply eating up the cocoon and destroying it under the immense pressure.

Dragon King Lanber

The King had been among the handful of Dragons, lucky enough to survive the Metamorphosis stage. The cocooning had been especially successful for young Lanber and he had Fire abilities far beyond anything ever seen by the Dragons. Lanber could not only breathe fire, he had fire emanating from his wings, his talons and his skull. His accension to the throne was undeniable from a young age. The King was a particularly huge dragon standing 60 feet tall with a wing span of 200 feet. With unrivalled fire abilities, Lanber never had any real threats.

As the mighty King set off in his quest to conquer all the Dragon tribes, he wasn’t really met with any resistance. All the tribes willingly surrendered to his majesty, the dragons accepted and admired his glory. All the tribes were elated at having such a mighty and noble king as a ruler above them. King Lanber had not only commanded the fear of any and all fellow dragons but had also earned their respect. It was during this expansion campaign that King Lanber met Queen Rees. As the King had advanced through the dragon tribes, all had been ruled by Alpha Dragons, save one, the mountain dragons, ruled by Queen Rees. Queen Rees was not a particularly huge Dragon, but she had powers completely unique to her. The Queen had a long, almost snake like body, with purple to pinkish scales. The scars on her body and face were clearly visible, asserting her warrior lifestyle.

Dragon Queen Rees

Queen Rees had been born in the mountains. She had fought her way to the top and commanded undying respect and fear in the hearts of her subjects.

The King had never seen such a dragon before and had fallen head over heels in love with her. King Lanber and Queen Rees had later married and the whole Motherland was under their command. It was to this power couple that Queen Hercula was born. As soon as she hatched, it was clear that she would possess powers far beyond anyone had ever seen before. From a young age she started showing abilities of fire manipulation without even needing to go through the cocoon stage. As if she had inherited the abilities in her DNA. Her body was a spitting image of her father, but somehow a bigger, stronger and more majestic display of fire red dragon glory. Her face resembled that of her mother, but without the scars, which made her beauty absolutely irresistible.

From a young age she showed promising interest in her father’s plans, accompanying him during most of his endeavors. During this era, the Dragon’s technology was advancing at a rapid pace. The possibility of interplanetary travel capabilities in the near future seemed within reach. Princess Hercula along with her father, made plans to extend their reach to the far reached of the Astral system, now that the entire motherland was within their domain. The King raised a number of formidable armies in preparation for the planned future conquests. But fate had decided otherwise for the mighty King. Before the Dragons could master interplanetary travel at substantial scale the king met his demise. The King’s death left Queen Hercula as the only worthy successor to the throne and was crowned Queen of Motherland. Queen Rees herself coronated Hercula as Queen of all Dragons and ruler of all of Motherland. Thus, began Queen Hercula quests and eventual conquests of the entire Astral system.

Meanwhile, over at Prima, the primaries had recessed to a kind of dark ages in terms of society. The primaries were a particularly selfish creature. They had always thought of themselves as the most superior creatures and prided themselves at being the most sophisticated and more cultured than all the other races. They had become aware of the existence of creatures on the neighboring planets but considered them lower races and unworthy of any attention. Thus, the Primaries had no plans to make any efforts towards an interplanetary future. Even though the Primaries prided themselves at being sophisticated and advanced beings, their selfish nature and self-serving attitude had thrown Prima into disarray. The Primaries had split into a number of different factions, with each faction taking hold of as much territory as they could, plundering the natural resources of the land and massacring the native species. Prima, though the beautiful planet that it was, had been effectively turned into an active war zone, with each faction fighting for its territory. The primaries, unknowingly were moving towards self-destruction.

Thus, when Queen Hercula began her quest and started conquering the neighboring planets, she was met with little to no resistance. The Primaries might have stood a chance, were they united, but a divided Prima didn’t stand a chance against the massively powerful and huge armies of Hercula. Over the coming centuries, the Queen was able to completely dominate and absorb into her own dominion all the planets of the Astral system. Now the Queen reigned supreme, not just over Motherland, but over the entire Astral system. The Queen, owing to her nature as a dragon, was a benevolent ruler who desired nothing but peace and harmony for all her subjects.

She had a vision to unite all the creatures of the Astral system under her leadership and advancing her ambitions towards other Star systems. The Queen had setup central command stations at Prima, Dortha and Decca. The command stations had dragons stationed at them and it was through these command stations that the Queen maintained her rule over the planets. The whole Astral system was under the dominion of the Dragons. Under the rule of the Dragons, the inhabitants of the Astral system experienced advancement at an accelerated pace. It was now a united Astral system, with active trade and technology transfer among the planetary inhabitants. This was the beginning of the most prosperous and lucrative period of the Astral system. Queen Hercula and the Dragons ensured that all the inhabitants of the Prima, Dortha and Decca lived a good life. She made sure to eradicate war and Famine, guaranteeing food and security to all allowing the societies to grow and advance in sciences, arts, philosophy and other advanced endeavors. The dragons ruled the Astral system for millennia, with the era under their rule proving to be the most prosperous and peaceful in the Astral system’s entire timeline.

Queen Hercula ruled for thousands of years and left an unbroken line of Queens through her offspring. All of Queen Hercula’s descendants carried the fire power gene, thus the Queen’s legacy was safe as her descendants had no power to rival them. The descendants of Queen Hercula were called the Herculeans and they always served under an all-powerful Queen. Herculeans had been growing in power with each successive generation thereby cementing their grip on the entire Astral system. Thus, the dominance of the Dragons over the entire Astral system ever growing.
